The iPod nano probably saw the biggest share of improvements. It now has a 2" screen, plays video, and comes in some new colors. I don't own an iPod. And I probably never will own one. But, despite this little snag, I just completed a rendering of the new iPod. I wanted something easy, hip, and mostly gray to draw. Hence, the iPod.

I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. I added myself and DFP as the "now playing" song. I used a photo of the iPod nano for reference, but everything was drawn from scratch in Inkscape. Although this is unpleasant during the day, it makes for beautiful sunsets! Also, the stars were a lot of fun (copy and paste, paste, paste).

Landscape

This picture was inspired by what I saw while driving home last night. The time was just past sunset. The last remaining sun light fell upon the mountains causing the distant regions to appear hazy. I tried to capture this twilight type moment here:

My favorite part about Inkscape is the ease with which gradients can be created. It makes for some cool color and value changes.

First Rendering

Preow world!

I was recently introduced to a well developed computer program called: Inkscape. I absolutely love it! It meets my tight-wad budget standards because it's FREE! Aside from this, it offers powerful rendering tools that are normally only found in expensive illustration programs.

I have been around the art scene for a good portion of my life. My pre-inkscape experience include working with pastels (oil and soft), watercolours, sketching, and ink. Inkscape is a new, exciting, yet challenging medium for me. I have much to learn, but I'm ecstatic to see what creations come from this

Here is my first rendering. It took me about 25 minutes to create.

If you'd like to dabble in this medium I suggest downloading the free software from inkscape's website: http://www.inkscape.org/
